From time to time we get requests for interviews for class projects and what not...here is one I received today and my responses, I was pretty candid with her as you will come to find out...

1. How would you describe the ideal client?

The ideal client would have a general idea of what they want, but not so detailed that there isn't any flexibility or creativity.  They would also have a budget that allowed for us to create exactly what they are wanting.

2. How would you define “success” for this position?

Success for us is a steady flow of business that allows us to move seamlessly from event to event without being overburdened or overworked throughout it all.

3. What’s the salary range?

We don't really have salaries in our company structure, but I would say on the low end 30k, high end 150k+
4. Is your work/life balance acceptable?
Currently the balance is acceptable.

5. What are the significant trends in the industry?

Trends run the industry, we are seeing allot of vintage, a ton of very creative photography and more and more personalized weddings.

6. What problems or difficulties are present in the industry now?
Just that everyone is on a tight budget and they want more for less constantly.  It would be nice if people would just be happy paying the price that things actually cost.

7.  What will be the greatest challenge in the job?

I would say the greatest challenge we face is cultivating new clients.  Brides usually don't need us a second time around or else we hope not.

8. Can you describe a typical day for someone in this position?

Typical day for me is emails, phone calls, craft stores, timelines, emails, phone calls repeat....mix in site visits, initial consultations, graphic design and pr reviews weekly.

9. What qualifications are you looking for in the person who fills this job?

I need people with event experience, the girls that are planning events for their sororities, the one's planning their friends showers...but that also can work hard and lift things and aren't scared to get dirty.  Marketing and PR degrees help.

10. What are the traits and skills of people who are the most successful within the organization?

People that have a little bit of knowledge in many different fields...a little bartending experience, some waiting tables, retail time, etc.  The more of a wide background they have the more valuable they become to me.
